About Me

Traditional signwriting & ornament in Victoria.

I’m Phil Son, a sign painter, ornamental designer, and traditional craftsman with a passion for historical accuracy and timeless artistry. Based in Victoria, I create hand-painted signs, traditional historic ornament, and decorative finishes that honor the methods of the past while serving the needs of today.

My path into this work began with a fascination for calligraphy, medieval manuscripts, classical architecture and the artistry of old cities. Over the years, I’ve immersed myself in historical techniques, from traditional signwriting and ornamental design to heritage restoration. A defining chapter of my education was attending La Table Ronde Architecture’s Summer School in Bruges, where I deepened my understanding of traditional building, urbanism, and decorative arts. That experience shaped my belief that classical craftsmanship is not just history, but a living tradition worth preserving and practicing today.

Every project I take on is guided by three principles: authenticity, precision, and respect for tradition. Whether it’s restoring a heritage sign, designing period and culturally accurate architectural ornament, or creating a hand-painted custom piece, my work is rooted in deep research and careful execution.

I’d love to collaborate with homeowners, businesses, and institutions who want to preserve the beauty of the past or bring classical design into new projects. If you value detail, tradition, and craftsmanship, let’s make something that lasts.
